AMD's Opteron 254 processor

FOR THE PAST 12 months, Intel and AMD have praised the merits of their respective dual-core CPU designs and focused on thread-level parallelism as the key to better perfomance, while gradually distancing themselves from the old "clock speed" performance standard. Although Intel beat AMD by a handful of weeks when it came time to formally launch dual-core desktop systems, AMD was the first company to offer dual-core solutions across the server, workstation, and desktop markets.

SAMD's dual-core Opteron processors
MICROPROCESSORS ARE GETTING too hot, requiring too much power, and not delivering enough additional performance for it. That's the basic problem. The engine that's driven the microcomputer's incredible rise in capability over the past 30 years, Moore's Law, isn't quite out of steam yet, but some of its offshoots are on the ropes. CPU designers have nearly exhausted their collective bag of tricks to get more performance out of additional transistors on a chip by increasing parallelism at the instruction level.
AMD's Athlon 64 X2 processors

DDR2 RAM Review
Corsair TWINX2048-3500LLPRO memory kit uses two 1 GB CMX1024-3500LLPRO memory modules (219 MHz/DDR438, 2-3-2-6 timings) and is optimized to be used on ASUS A8N32-SLI motherboards series. CMX1024-3500LLPRO modules were the first to use CAS 2 latency, which is considered very aggressive in high-capacity modules (1 GB) with a 219 MHz clock. Let’s see how this kit goes on our review.
Gigabit Network Combo
If you want to upgrade some or all of your Local Area Network (LAN) to gigabit Ethernet - Ethernet with ten times the bandwidth of the regular 100BaseT standard - then it hasn't been too hard for some time. You buy gigabit Network Interface Cards (NICs), you buy a gigabit switch or hub, you use your ordinary Category 5 cable with RJ45 connectors on it, away you go.
Hitachi 400GB H.D
The first thing I noticed about this 400GB drive is that it is a weightier than other drives. With five disks inside you’d expect a little more weight. When I turned it over I noticed three external plates covering about 1/3 the underside.
Intel's Woodcrest processor
IF YOU FOLLOW server and workstation processors at all, you probably have a sense that Intel's Xeon has been having some trouble competing with AMD's Opteron. Processors based on Intel's Netburst microarchitecture—including the Xeon—have relatively low clock-for-clock performance, and they rely on high clock speeds to make up for that fact.
